Buzzwords for your CV

CV Buzzwords

Though it may seem cliché, there are certain buzzwords that you should include in your CV which will stick in employers’ minds.

Recruiters and employers only have a short space of time in which to scan your CV and decide if you are the right person for the job. We search for skills, experience, education and interests. We also look at the type of language that you use – as well as spelling and grammar.

Certain words can make your CV stand out from the crowd. These include:

1. Flexible

Flexibility is usually the favourite buzzword for a job advertisement as many candidates desire flexible working, but it works the other way around too. Businesses these days tend to be 24/7 and showing you are flexible shows the employer that you are not a 9-5 clock off type of employee. The right candidate will be flexible and in turn the company can be equally accommodating for its workers.

2. Adaptable

Showing an employer that you are adaptable to change is paramount. Businesses move at a very fast pace and roles are quite interchangeable. As a result, versatility is a desired trait for employers as being rigid or holding on to legacy generally means falling behind.

3. Own initiative

No one wants to employ someone only to have to micro-manage every single job that is passed to them. Employers want to know that candidates can use their own initiative and “hit the ground running” with little intervention. While training is an important aspect of the onboarding process, a degree of self-direction is an essential skill.

4. Attention to detail

Mistakes happen, that is a part of life. However, demonstrating a good attention to detail means you can minimise mistakes showing the employer you are a “right first time” kind of person. You should mention this quality in CV and it will also be demonstrated with how you have written, designed and proof-read your CV also.

5. Self-motivated

While team building and employee engagement is an important element of a being able to motivate staff, it is equally important that staff can motivate themselves. Being self-motivated goes hand in hand with having one’s own initiative in that you can work independently and efficiently.

Other words which help your CV to “pop” include; enthusiastic, independent, multi-tasker and strong work ethic.
