London Design Festival Please be seated

London this September is all about design as it hosts the London Design Festival. This widely reaching series of events celebrates design in the capital – bringing together likeminded individuals and organisations.

London Design Festival is an annual event, held to support and promote London as the design capital of the world and as the gateway to the international creative community. The Festival returns to venues and institutes across the city from 14-22 September 2019.

The London Design Festival 2019

The line-up of events for the capital incorporates a wide variety of activities. Here we list some of the highlights.

London Design Fair

The London Design Fair houses 550 exhibitors from across the globe in a fully loaded 4-day period between 19-22 September 2019. Exhibitors range from independent designers and well-known brands as well as international country pavilions. Taking place at the Old Truman Brewery, the London Design Fair calls itself the largest trade destination during the London Design Festival. See more about the London Design Fair 2019 here.

Designer Paul Cocksedge is transforming Finsbury Avenue Square with his innovative urban furniture project (pictured above). According to the designer, it “walks the line between a craft object and a design solution”. It provides a space for Londoners to sit, lie back, seek shade or simply admire.

Take the Plunge

At The Bargehouse, Oxo Tower Wharf, you’ll find a purpose built immersive experience that is sure to fuel your curiosity. Plain on the outside, inside your find a truly interactive environment that invites you to dive into a new experience that is inspired by the sea.

London Design Medals

Alongside the events, leading design figures and talents can be in for the chance of being awarded one of four prestigious medals. These medals are presented on 16th September at the British Land Celebration of Design at the House of Commons, Westminster. The categories include:

  • London Design Medal
  • Design Innovation Medal
  • Emerging Design Medal
  • Lifetime Achievement Medal
